Quick answer

Typical installed cost: $200–$800

A chandelier is jewelry for a room and a rigging job for an electrician: weight-rated boxes anchored to structure, correct hanging height over tables and in foyers, and dimming that flatters. We hang everything from dining fixtures to two-story statement pieces with proper staging.

About Chandelier Installation

Hanging a chandelier is one part electrical, two parts rigging: verifying the box rating against the fixture's real weight, bracing to framing when it exceeds 50 pounds, staging safely in a two-story foyer, and assembling crystal tiers in place without a scratch.

Height is the aesthetic make-or-break, 30–36 inches over a dining table, 7-foot clearance in walkways, centered on the table rather than the room when the two disagree. We measure, hang, level, and dim it to flatter.

Complex hangs we do routinely

  • Two-story foyer fixtures with scaffold or lift staging
  • Heavy fixtures (50–150+ lbs) with structural bracing
  • Sloped-ceiling adaptations
  • Chain, cord, and downrod re-lengthening for perfect height
  • Dimmer pairing for candelabra and integrated-LED fixtures

The three measurements that make a chandelier look right

Designers size chandeliers with a simple formula: room length plus width in feet, converted to inches, approximates the right fixture diameter (a 12×14 room wants roughly a 26-inch fixture). Over a dining table, the fixture should span about half to two-thirds of the table's width and hang 30–36 inches above it.

In foyers, maintain 7 feet of clearance and, for two-story spaces, center the fixture at the second-floor sightline, not just the ceiling's. We bring these numbers (and the structural bracing for heavy pieces) to every hang, which is why our installs look intentional rather than merely attached.

Frequently asked questions

30–36 inches from tabletop to fixture bottom for standard ceilings, a touch higher for tall rooms. In foyers, keep 7 feet of clearance minimum.

Standard boxes are rated to 50 lbs; heavier fixtures need a rated brace anchored to framing, which we verify and install as part of every heavy hang.

Yes, that's a standard visit: box verification (upgraded if needed), assembly, hang at correct height, and a matched dimmer. Bring-your-own-fixture is most of our chandelier work.
