Sauna Wiring

Quick answer

Home sauna electrical, dedicated 240V circuits for heaters (30–60A), high-temp rated wiring inside the hot room, controls, and lighting. Typically $600–$1,500 installed.

Typical installed cost: $600–$1,500

Sauna heaters are serious loads (6–10.5kW is common) in a punishing environment: wiring inside the hot room must be rated for the temperature, controls mounted where the manufacturer specifies, and the circuit sized to the heater's plate. We wire traditional and infrared saunas to spec and code.

About Sauna Wiring

A sauna heater draws like a small furnace, 6 to 10.5 kilowatts is routine, inside a room engineered to reach 190°F. The environment is the whole game: standard cable insulation is rated for 60–90°C ambient, which the hot room exceeds, so the wiring inside must be high-temperature rated and routed exactly as the heater manufacturer specifies.

We wire traditional electric heaters, infrared panel rooms, and steam generators: the dedicated 240V circuit sized to the plate, controls at their specified mounting point (contactor boxes outside the hot zone), vapor-sealed penetrations, and the sauna light on its own protected switch leg.

Traditional vs infrared, electrically

  • Traditional 240V heater: 30–50A dedicated circuit, high-temp cable inside
  • Infrared panels: lower total draw, often 20A, panel layout matters
  • Steam generators: their own sizing plus a control and drain story
  • Both: lighting and controls rated for heat and humidity

Frequently asked questions

Most 240V heaters need a dedicated 30–50A circuit (check the heater's plate, we size to it). Infrared rooms often run on smaller circuits; some plug into a dedicated 20A.

Not in the hot zone, conductor insulation there must be rated (typically 90°C+ or per manufacturer, often high-temp cable or conduit). It's the detail that separates a safe sauna from a slow fire.

Yes, kits arrive with a spec sheet, and our job is making your home meet it: the circuit, the high-temp connections, and the control wiring, permitted and inspected.
